KBC Group CEO Johan Thijs named “Banking CEO of the Year Western Europe” for 2016 by International Banker

It has also honoured KBC Belgium with awards.

The renowned London-based International Banker magazine has named Johan Thijs “Banking CEO of the Year Western Europe” for 2016.

It has also honoured KBC Belgium with awards in the categories Best Innovation in Retail Banking Belgium and Private Bank of the Year Belgium for 2016.

The International Banker Awards are voted for by the magazine's readership and a jury comprising financial journalists. As regards the award for Johan Thijs, they refer to the sharp increase in KBC's share price since he became CEO four years ago. In addition, International Banker regards him as the personification of the values promoted by KBC, and also praises the company's trademark transparency.

KBC is extremely proud to receive these awards,  which recognise the efforts KBC has made in recent years to become a sustainable, integrated, omni-channel bank-insurer that is the reference on its home markets.

Johan Thijs, KBC Group CEO, had this to say: ‘KBC has travelled a long road. These Awards are proof yet again of the hard but successful work of our staff. Our strategy, culture and commitment are clearly paying off, to the benefit of all our stakeholders. We have become the reference in our markets and can be very proud of that.

More information on these awards is available on the International Banker website and in the press release issued by the magazine today. International Banker has also published an interview with Johan Thijs.
